There is no such thing as a free lunch – or a free hearing test

‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch as or a free hearing test.’
by Dr Vass

A question that is common in my practice is “Do you offer free hearing tests?” and my answer is always “No,” and I never will. Like the saying goes, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” – everything has its price. If you are being offered a free hearing test you need to ask yourself one important question: “Why is it free?”

This approach is a sales pitch. It’s a lure to get customers into a clinic and sell them hearing aids. It is also a tool used by sales focused clinics to collect personal information to add to their company database and onto a mailing list. The more recent trend of offering patients incentives such as “Make a booking today for a free hearing test and receive a shopping voucher!” is even more alarming.

As an independent Doctor of Audiology, I take my profession seriously. I have never and will never pressure a patient into purchasing hearing aids. I do not receive sales commissions or work to meet sales targets. I am passionate about hearing health and I believe that the knowledge and advice that I share with my patients is invaluable; it is not something that can be matched by a free shopping voucher. I believe in providing a professional service to my patients, not selling to them.

My philosophy is simple: my patients and their well-being come first. I welcome anyone to contact my office on (02) 6282 2717 and make an appointment if they are seeking help for hearing loss or are in need of a second opinion.
